Holder of Hope
Sometimes it is those who have known the greatest of depths who are privileged to become Holders of Hope for others. When you yourself have climbed the mountain of heartache, you understand how to take another’s hand to hold during the steep ascent of loss. You are brave enough to sit right inside of their raw grief because you have walked that road yourself.
You now know how to run alongside the one who tries to outrun the pain, and you know how to hold them when they collapse at the finish line. You know the anger and confusion and despair first hand but you also know something that they don’t...and as much as you want to share your secret, sometimes you must hold it until they can hear and see and feel the truth for themselves. You know HOPE. You know that underneath all of their tears, Hope is catching every single droplet in its hands. You know those tears are GOLD to a Father in heaven who restores and redeems and refines. And you know that nothing, not even death, can stop the goodness of God and his faithful love for his children. Nothing.
You, as the Holder of Hope get to tuck all of the promises of Truth close to your heart and keep them until your dear friend can hold them for herself. You, who have suffered such a great loss yourself, are qualified in your grief-giving simply because you have already walked along this oh so difficult road. May your blessings to this wounded heart in some way heal your own wounds, deeply and fully.
These split HOPE Circles, one to give and one to hold, are some of my favorites to paint. I love giving people the opportunity to stand with someone they love as they walk through life.
