Deep Calls to Deep
Sometimes life feels like a great big PAUSE. We want to push the FAST FORWARD button and skip the oh-so-hard moments, or at the very least, press PLAY as we set our minds to endure what may come. PAUSE feels scary--like that moment when your heart skips one too many beats for your comfort. It is neither here nor there...past nor present nor future. We feel stuck and if we are honest, it is really not a place we want to be for a short time, much less indefinitely. But in this place we remember what was. Even in our aching and doubting and fear-filled hearts, there is a glimmer of hope that tells us what will be once again. We know this truth somewhere deep down inside--in a place that feels like a forbidden garden or a forgotten fortress. So we speak this truth right to our souls even louder than the echoing lie: “And just where is your God, now?”
We take that little soul by the hand and lift it up off it’s knees where it can see beyond the trees. “There, there little life, you are going to be okay. God is still with you even though you are broken. You can do it. It takes great courage to remember….but think back to just moments ago when you were tucked gently under his wings and smiling so big. Remember? Remember how you were giggling and raising those little hands to the sky in sheer delight? You were so full of joy! You’re standing now...all by yourself! Just keep hoping and waiting...He is there even deeper than your pain. “
Maybe for you it is a spiritual pause or a pause caused by depression or loss. Perhaps January has you feeling like everyone else is moving ahead but for you New Year’s Day never came.
When our need is as deep as the sea, there is something that runs even deeper still. The depth of our struggles and fears has nothing on the big love of Jesus. “My deep need calls out to the deep kindness of your love.” (Psalm 42:7 TPT)
Your heart will beat again.
Your joy will fill you again.
Your HOPE will rise again.
